Posable McToran
SUMMARY
The original, charming, nostalgia packed Matoran seen in Happy Meals & MNOG. But wait...it's fully posable?! Yep.
BACKGROUND
“Matoran workers have always been among the most important inhabitants of the universe. Without them, the will of the Great Spirit Mata Nui could not be carried out.”
The Matoran of 2001 were the introduction to Bionicle for many people. Either through Happy Meals, or the Mata-Nui Online Game (MNOG). These little guys are packed with charm and are, simply put, iconic.
But, while full of nostalgia and magic, we were never able to play with them in the dynamic way we saw them pottering around the villages in MNOG. They were destined to sit on the shelf, perfectly still, wishing for a more exciting life. Takua wouldn’t want that, would he?
So I thought it’d be fun to try and improve them without losing the original charm of a happy meal toy!
GOALS
- Ensure that my re-imagined sets are recognisable and as true to the original aesthetics as possible.
- Improve proportions and articulation, avoiding the overbulked "chad" style.
- Retain play features if possible, otherwise introduce new dynamic features.
There’s a reason this guide is for Jaller (Jala) only - not all these parts are available in authentic Lego pieces in all the original colours to match the torso. If you do not wish to resort to non-authentic parts, for the other McToran you may need to get creative with colour choices.
QUICK DISCLAIMER:
- For the purposes of photography, I substitute blue pin axles with black. In the instruction files and parts lists, I use blue ones to make it easier for you to buy the parts needed. I can recommend Vonado and WeBrick for high quality non-authentic pieces should you prefer to use black, and can't source authentic pieces.
Download includes PDF instructions & xml parts list which can be directly uploaded to your Bricklink "Want List".
