Makuta Teridax

SUMMARY

The Master of Shadows, the Void, The Makuta. Fully redesigned as the intimidating, powerful titan he deserves to be.

BACKGROUND:

The Makuta species have long evolved beyond the need for physical bodies, and Teridax is no different. While his antidermis has occupied many forms, this is the one he takes when he has someone to kill. 

The mystery surrounding “The Makuta” in the early years of Bionicle was one of my biggest hooks into the franchise. This menacing, vanishing, almost unidentifiable villain was a captivating concept. In 2003, I was all too excited to finally receive Makuta in set form. When I came back to the Bionicle franchise in my adulthood, with slightly less rose-tinted glasses, I was disappointed by the set we were given and was determined to give who I now knew as “Teridax”, a fitting Titan build. 

GOALS:

1. Ensure that my re-imagined sets are recognisable and as true to the original aesthetics as possible.
2. Improve proportions and articulation, avoiding the overbulked "chad" style.
3. Retain play features if possible, otherwise introduce new dynamic features.

With Teridax this was tough, as to hit my goal of improving proportions and articulation, I decided to abandon the original design altogether. That said, I am pleased with the end result, using many familiar pieces and keeping the colour scheme and other aesthetics relatively consistent to the original.

QUICK DISCLAIMER:

• This MOC uses a total of 4 rubber bands which are not in the parts list. I'm not a fan, but I couldn't think of a better solution and decided that as many others use this method, I would accept it as necessary.
• For the purposes of photography, I substitute blue pin axles with black. In the instruction files and parts lists, I use blue ones to make it easier for you to buy the parts needed. I can recommend Vonado and WeBrick for high quality non-authentic pieces should you prefer to use black, and can't source authentic pieces.
